Revision as of 15:20, 5 August 2014

This page is part of the Smart House Online Simulation activity.

The matrix in this page connects devices and services with user groups/preferences, with adaptations that might happen based on the preferences. How the personas will be used is still open to discussion; for example, they might be used in a persona/profile switcher in the smart house simulation.

TV

The language is set to Spanish. Simple voice control

Control of TV from phone. The phone itself has an adapted UI (see below).

When video is playing, audio description is turned on. -- There is no need to implement this since the Cloud4all demo video we are using has audio description embedded.

High contrast (white on black) Increased font size

Control of TV from phone. The phone itself has an adapted UI (see below).

High contrast

Increased font size

Captions automatically turned on

Voice control with Auto mute when detected voice command; The language is set to Spanish.

Also for people who cannot physically use the TV/MMS buttons and controls , they can have control of TV/MMS from phone (or from similar app on a persons communication aid or environmental control on their wheel chair if they use one)

UI language changed to spanish to user profile;

Simple TV control program with only basic controls available on phone or ipad like device.

Simple remote control  with physical buttons also available for TV supporting button remapping

(Smart) phone

The language is set to Spanish.

Simple voice control

The smartphone provides access to the following:

  • TV
  • HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning)
  • Oven
  • Washing machine
  • Tumble Dryier
  • Refrigerator
  • Alarm clock [??]

The UI for blind people should be simple vertical list as it is hard to find things left or right. The language should be more verbose (e.g. "Change temperature instead of just "Temperature"). The arrow keys should simulate sliding up/down on a touch screen. The touchpad while holding a given key would scroll as if on your phone (low priority). The type of the element should be anounced (e.g. title, button, etc.) at the end of the element name. There should be separate volume up/down buttons as a slider is not usable. Common text should be moved at the back (e.g. Captions button instead of Button for captions - or better: "Captions: now on (button)". There should be a single label at the top ("TV settings"). Screen reading should be built in (via a TTS engine).

High contrast

Increased font size

Voice output

Person can use the smartphone to control products in the house that have poor visibility or that require reading that is beyond their ability. With the smart phone they can have:

  • voice output of the selections
  • enhanced video displays of the text [??]

H''''igh contrast Increased font size

Voice output

 Haptic feedback [??]

Person can use a smartphone or similar app on a persons communication aid or environmental control on their wheel chair if they use one) to control products in the house when they cannot use the physical controls on the devices.

Buttons on bottom edge of screen can be used by people who cannot use the full touch screen.

ALSO bluetooth enabled switches can be used to navigate the screen from head rest or other adapted switches (They function like the arrowkeys and enter key or can autoscan)   [This is only described -- we don't have bluetooth link to phone one screen. but if they have them programmed to act like the arrow and enter keys-- then it would work since it would look to the program like a person was typing on those keys)

Voice control, can also be used on the phone when available on the phone.

Very simple version of control app appears for this person for this user.

Voice control, activated by a special command or by a switch.

HVAC  remote control

Simple voice control

Control of HVAC from phone - since labels are hard printed on the remote. The phone itself has an adapted UI (see above).

They can also check status of the HVAC from the phone since they can't hear if it is on or not.

Person can use a smartphone or similar app on a persons communication aid or environmental control on their wheel chair if they use one) to control the HVAC when they cannot use the physical controls on the devices.

(See also notes in smart phone above)
